Get up and run 5k!

A couple of weekends ago, Jeff decided that we needed to sign up for our church's get up and run 5k.

Get Up and Run is our church's yearly fundraiser. This year, we raised money for the famine in Somalia.

Great Event. Great cause. Doesn't mean I wanted to run a 5k though. So I was perfectly content to let this event come and go.

I am not a runner. I've never been a runner.

Actually, that's a lie. I used to be. When I was little, I remember participating in our school's field days. I'd always sign up for the running events, the 500 yard dash, the relay race, etc. And I always placed in the top 3. But that ended around 6th grade. Once I joined junior high, I just stopped running. I contemplated joining track, but decided I didn't like running that much. The most I ever ran after that time in my life was when I joined tennis in H.S., and I regularly needed to run a mile. So I trudged down into my basement on a daily basis and ran a mile on my treadmill. Just one. Never more than One. And it usually took me 15 minutes to complete.

Well, recently I decided I needed to lose some weight, so I started running (on the treadmill) again. I don't particularly enjoy it, but I do recognize it's good exercise. So when Jeff brought up the idea of us actually doing the 5k, I reluctantly agreed.

But leaving me 2 weeks to prepare for the 5k wasn't really enough time to prepare.

So needless to say, we went, put BG in her stroller, and I ran as far as I could, walked some, ran some more, and then BG decided she had enough of being in her stroller. So she cried, fussed, and eventually we gave up and picked her up and Jeff ended up carrying her for quite a bit.

on his shoulders!!

But of course, we couldn't just carry BG over the finish line. Nor could we push her in the stroller over the finish line. We needed the cross the line together. So we set her down...

each grabbed a hand.

and crossed the finish line together.

and wouldn't you know it? We placed! We were the fastest family to cross the finish line.

Granted. There were only 2 families, but still. We'll take the wins where we can get them.
