You have to act their age.

Making BG laugh is one of our biggest joys in life. I remember after Neil Patrick Harris and his partner had twins, he tweeted
The babies were about 4 months old at that point, and Sophie was about three. After Sophie turned 4 months old, I just kept waiting. Tried to constantly be silly around her, waiting for that first giggle.

And it never came. I was worried enough to bring it up at her next doctor's appointment! Up till that point, I had prided myself over the fact that I didn't get too worried about the little things. About things like milestones not reached, or height and weight percentiles, because I figured all babies grew and learn at their own pace. But NPH screwed it all up for me.

He talked about his laughing babies, and I was willing to give up my right arm to see BG laugh.

Then one day, Jeff and I took BG to the grocery store. I was pushing her in her stroller, while Jeff was pushing the shopping cart. She was starting to get a bit fussy, so i pushed her away from me pretty quickly then pulled her close again, hitting my head on the handle of her car seat (we were still using the snap and go at this point). And she did it. She giggled! It was the cutest little laugh! And I couldn't get enough of it. I kept doing it again, and again, and again. Hitting my head over and over again on the handle of her stroller, just to hear that joyous sound.

You know what? NPH was right. It was like opium.

Still, BG's pretty conservative with her laughing. She rarely ever laughs, sometimes she'll placate us with a giggle or two, but she quickly gets over it, and goes on about her business.

Except when she's playing with Halmoni (grandmother in korean...aka my mom). Oh man. Does she laugh. She has such a ball playing with halmoni that it really makes me a bit jealous.

So I said as much to my mom.

My mom replies. You have to act their age. BG's 11 month's old. So you have to act 11 months old. When she's 2, you play like you're 2. When she's 5, you play like you're 5. It'll be exhausting, but it's guaranteed to get them to really enjoy playing with you.

Words of wisdom.

But, I dunno. I've tried. I really have. I tried doing all the things my mom did with her, and nothing. No laughs. Maybe a giggle. But nothing like this.

So, I ask myself. WWNPHD?

I think he'd keep trying. Because the laugh is like Opium. You need to constantly take a hit because you always want that high.
