The other day, we got home pretty late, and BG and I were walking down the hallway when all of a sudden, the fire alarm starts going off. It scared the crap out of me, and BG froze and started shaking and bawling. I drop everything I was carrying and fall to the ground so that I could hold her and cover her ears from the blaring alarms.
Our alarms are known to go off every now and then - usually testing during the day, but never in the middle of the night. So I grabbed BG, and we all ran downstairs and out of the noise. We noticed that people were working out in the clubhouse, so we figured it was quiet in there and so we went there to grab some shelter from the cold.
Fire department showed up, lights were spinning, sirens were going off... it was all a very big adventure. All the other kids went outside to take a look at the fire trucks, so we braved the cold again, and went outside. We saw all our neighbors, and the firemen determined it was a false alarm and let everyone back into the building.
This obviously riled BG up a bit before her bedtime, but all in all, everyone was safe, our apartment wasn't on fire, and an adventure was had.
